Cocaine, is derived from the Erythroxylon coca plant, a tropical shrub indigenous to mountainous areas in South America (Andes). Most cocaine is harvested from Columbia, Peru and Bolivia. Though most cocaine exported from South America is illegal, some coca plantations produce and harvest licit (legal) coca, which is sold to the National Coca Monopoly, which provides cocaine to pharmaceuticals.
