When an individual scores in the risky or harmful range of alcohol or substance, a brief intervention (BI) is suggested.  A BI is a patient-centered conversation focused on changing risky or harmful alcohol and/or drug use that aims to decrease risk for alcohol and drug related problems. Each BI is based on the use of motivational interviews skills and is geared towards eliciting each person’s own reasons for change.
