Marijuana is a drug that is associated with a great deal of controversy. Researchers, treatment providers and smokers have a variety of opinions on what type of drug Marijuana is, whether or not it's addictive, if Marijuana is a legitimate medical treatment, and if Marijuana should be legal or illegal to smoke. Uniquely difficult to classify in a single category, Marijuana has effects similar to stimulants, hallucinogens and depressants. Marijuana is also often called a narcotic, which refers to the historical regulation of Marijuana in the early 20th century. Marijuana is the only substance that has the classification as cannabinoid.
